A summer camp themed “Go ahead with Love, Set Sail for the Future” concluded in SIP on July 16. During five days, it gave 40 children with special needs a leg up in their growth.

Sponsored by Suzhou Industrial Park Juvenile Rescue and Protection Center and SIP Ren’ai School, the summer camp, the fifth of its kind under an annual program run in SIP for children who require exceptional care and extra help, boasted comprehensive upgrades in curriculum, resources, settings, and services.

A highlight of this year’s camp was the division of four specialized classes on occupational skills, creative aesthetics, handicrafts recognized as intangible cultural heritage, and reading, which were tailored to meet developmental needs of different children and paired with safety education.

In addition to the classes, the camp incorporated five distinct theme activities, covering practical experiences across physical fitness, social interaction, empathy, culture, and parent-child bonding. Among these activities, a fun sports meet enhanced the participants’ physical ability and fostered teamwork, and a music festival brought together the children and elderlies from a nursing home for cross-age interaction.

Lectures focused on emotional guidance, daily companionship and growth support for children with special needs were provided to parents, offering evidence-based parenting methods for them to alleviate caregiving stress and anxiety.

On the final day, outcomes from the camp were shown, and the children and their parents played with bubbles and water together, enjoying a happy family bonding time.
