Suzhou is a city of water and a kingdom of bridges. To learn about the city, bridges can be a good start. As part of Suzhou, SIP has several bridges that are well worth a visit.

Yong’an Bridge

Located in Suzhou Dushu Lake Sci-Edu Innovation District, the Yong’an Bridge is a three-arch stepped beam bridge. Rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and later restored several times, it was inscribed on Jiangsu province’s fifth list of protected cultural relics in 2002.

In the Lianchi Lake Park in Yangchenghu Peninsula Tourist Resort, there are also two ancient bridges. The Changxing Bridge, a single-arch granite bridge first built in 1726 and rebuilt in 1905, is known locally as “Ring Cave Bridge” because its arch and reflection form a full circle. The Taiping Bridge is a granite beam bridge, rebuilt in 1884. In 2006, both were relocated to the park under a project to preserve the local memories.
