The Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art (Suzhou MoCA) will formally open to the public on Aug 30, after demonstrating great appeal during its trial operation. Concurrently, a four-month art season will kick off.

With a total floor area of about 59,500 square meters, including a total exhibition area of about 11,300 square meters, the Suzhou MoCA was designed by Danish architecture studio BIG. It sits on the right bank of Jinji Lake, neighboring the “Suzhou Eye” Ferris wheel.

The art season will go on in two phases, starting with four exhibitions respectively focused on global art masterpieces, contemporary Chinese art, technological art and architectural art.

Notably, one of the exhibitions, themed “BIG: Materialism”, is a permanent exhibition at the museum. It presents a dialogue on construction logic and spatial awareness centering on materials, with the Suzhou MoCA as a major example.

In addition to the exhibitions, about 100 events including lectures, seminars, art workshops and co-creation campaigns will take place. Volunteers will serve during these events to guide visitors to explore a fascinating world of art.

Meanwhile, art will extend beyond the museum’s walls. Picasso-themed art buses will run on the streets, while the artistic capsule of the “Suzhou Eye” Ferris wheel will be a new attraction for visitors and immersive Picasso pop-up exhibitions will be held at Suzhou Center and Suzhou Eslite Bookstore.
