The Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art (Suzhou MoCA), which formally opened to the public on Aug 30, has drawn sustained attention with its inaugural art season that comprises not only exhibitions, but also about 100 events including art lectures, workshops and performances. Recently the museum launched the recruitment for an art co-creation campaign, inviting 100 people to make artistic prints to tell their stories about Suzhou.

The first session of the campaign, scheduled on Sept 12, is an extension of the “Picasso and the World of His Influence” exhibition that is underway at the museum. A highlight of the exhibition is the Vollard Suite, which comprises 100 etchings produced by Picasso from 1930 to 1937.
Each participant will begin with a sheet of KT board, transforming their personal experiences into images through carving and printing, with inspiration drawn from a street, a bridge, a person, an article, a relationship, or a moment that is related to Suzhou and meaningful only to themselves. The works will ultimately converge into two collective art pieces: a map of Suzhou composed of 100 prints, and a three-dimensional installation built from 100 carved KT boards.

Other events related to the “Picasso and the World of His Influence” exhibition have been held, including a series of lectures under the same theme and hands-on activities at the Picasso Lab.

According to the museum, more events will be held over the next few months to help participants know better about diverse forms of art and enjoy the joy and fulfillment of art creation.
