The exhibition themed “Picasso and the World of His Influence” is underway at the Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art (Suzhou MoCA) in SIP as one of the museum’s four opening exhibitions.

The exhibition brings together the complete set of Picasso’s Vollard Suite, along with more than 30 works by 21 artists/groups from nine countries, including prints, oil paintings, ink paintings, sculptures, and installations. Together, the exhibits present a comprehensive picture of Picasso’s personal attainments and his cross-regional, cross-generational influence worldwide.

Taking printmaking as the entry point, the exhibition is designed to forge an intrinsic connection between Picasso’s artistic creations and Suzhou’s local history and culture. Moreover, the diversity, emotional depth and extensive knowledge in Picasso’s works match well with the museum’s pursuit for openness and cross-disciplinary exploration.

The exhibition consists of four sections that construct a panoramic dialogue extending from Picasso’s inner spiritual world to the broader ecosystem of global modern and contemporary art.

The exhibition starts with a condensed presentation of Picasso’s delicate and keen artistic sensibility, his rich life experiences, and his ever-evolving trajectory of creation.

The Vollard Suite, comprising 100 etchings produced by Picasso from 1930 to 1937, is an unmissable highlight of this exhibition. It returns to Chinese audiences twelve years after its exhibition at the National Museum of China in 2014.

The “Picasso after Picasso” section brings together works by representative modern and contemporary artists from both Eastern and Western countries and regions, forming an extensive network of art. The works on display vividly demonstrate the continuing dissemination and development of Picasso’s artistic concepts.
